Major Label Math

Recently, rapper Chuck D sued his label, Universal Music Group, for unpaid royalties. According to the federal documents filed by his lawyer, for each 99 cent download on iTunes, Chuck gets 8 cents.

For reference, if he were to distribute himself through TuneCore he'd get 70 cents. That'd be like giving himself a raise 8 times his current salary.

Now is the golden age of indie.
